The Mentor & Pupil System allows experienced players to bond with newer players to provide guidance and support. This partnership grants a special Mentor Buff that increases the experience (EXP) gain for both players as long as they are online together on the same server.
To participate in the system, players must meet specific requirements based on their character's progression.
How to become a Mentor: You must be at least Level 91 (Normal or Master). You are required to complete the "Mentors of Madrigal" quest from the NPC in Darkon. Note that Master characters between level 60-M and 90-M cannot obtain this quest.
How to become a Pupil: Players are eligible to become a Pupil at any level prior to their 2nd Job Change. To start, simply right-click a qualified player and select the option to ask them to be your Mentor.
A Mentor earns points based on the Pupil's progress. A total of 5 points can be earned per Pupil if the bond remains active until the Pupil reaches level 75:
1 point is awarded when the Pupil reaches Level 15.
1 point is awarded when the Pupil reaches Level 40.
1 point is awarded when the Pupil reaches Level 60.
2 points are awarded when the Pupil reaches Level 75.
Once a Pupil reaches Level 75, the bond is automatically broken, and the Mentor gains a free slot for a new Pupil.
The number of Pupils a Mentor can have simultaneously depends on their total accumulated Mentor Points. As the Mentor manages more online Pupils, their own EXP bonus increases.
Mentor Capacity:
1 Pupil: Available from 0 to 40 Mentor Points.
2 Pupils: Available from 41 to 100 Mentor Points.
3 Pupils: Available with 101 or more Mentor Points.
EXP Bonuses:
Mentor Bonus: Receives 3% increased EXP with one pupil online, 4% with two, and 5% with three.
Pupil Bonus: Receives a constant 3% increased EXP while their Mentor is online.
Either the Mentor or the Pupil can choose to cancel the bond at any time without needing the other person's permission. This is done by pressing Hot Key: E to open the Messenger, navigating to the Mentor/Pupil tab, and right-clicking the relationship to cancel.
Consequences for Pupils: If a Pupil breaks the bond, they lose the points earned from that relationship, but the Mentor keeps theirs.
Consequences for Mentors: If a Mentor breaks the bond, they lose the points while the Pupil keeps theirs.
Negative Points: If a Mentor's points fall below zero, they cannot accept another Pupil until their points return to at least 0. Re-logging may be required to fix display issues with negative point totals.
